Pastor Zsolt Ötvös
I was born on the 9th of June, 1974 in Berettyóújfalu, Hungary. I attended to primary school in Tiszacsege and Jánkmajtis. I started my secondary school education at the High School of the Reformed College of Debrecen, and graduated in 1992. In 1992 and 1993 I spent half year in Lausanne, Switzerland at the League pour la Lecture de la Bible Society’s conference center studying the French language.
In 1993 I was admitted to the Reformed Theological Seminary in Debrecen. After I had graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1998, I studied in the United States at the Presbyterian Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, as a scholarship student, and graduated in 1999 with a Master of Theology degree in Old Testament Studies.
In the spring of 1999 I became acquainted with the dean of the Central Classis of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, who invited me for pastoral work to North-America. I had the opportunity to meet the Hungarian Reformed Evangelical Christian Churches in Toronto and Oshawa, Ontario, Canada during the Pentecost of 1999. After the visit the congregations invited me for ministerial service.
I returned to Hungary, and took the First Pastoral Qualifying Examination at the Reformed Seminary at Debrecen in September 1999, and I started my practical year as assistant pastor in the congregations of Ramocsaháza and Nyiribrony in the Nyirségi Classis, Hungary.
In the September 2000 I finished my theological studies, and in October 2000 I arrived at the Hungarian Reformed Evangelical Christian Church in Toronto and Oshawa. From 15th of October, 2000 to 9th of September 2001 I served the congregation as an associate pastor to became acquainted with Canadian environment and the local church’s life. After a year of service, on the 9th of September the general assembly of the congregation elected me unanimously as full time pastor. On the 21st of October 2001 I was inducted to the pastoral post, and served the two Canadian congregations until 30th of November, 2003.
In 2004, I continued my service in the United States for the invitation of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Columbus, OH, where I spent 5 years in ministry. During that time I served as the Youth Camp Director and General Secretary of the Calvin Synod.
I have been blessed to serve in the congregation of the Magyar Reformed Church of New Brunswick since December 2008 where I found not only my church family among the members, but also my wife.
I am looking forward to working together with all of our dear friends and members of our church building God’s kingdom. Lelkipásztor Nt. Ötvös Zsolt
1974 június 9-én születtem Berettyóújfaluban, Magyarországon. Az általános iskolát Tiszacsegén és Jánkmajtison végeztem. Gimnáziumi tanulmányaimat a Debreceni Scott Refformátus Kollégium Gimnáziumában folytattam, és itt tettem érettségi vizsgát 1992-ben. 1992 és 1993-ban egy fél évet Svájcban, Lausanne városában a League Pour La Lecture de la Bible konferencia központban töltöttem el a francia nyelv tanulása céljából.
1993-ban felvételt nyertem a Debreceni Református Teológiai Akadémiára. Miután 1998-ban itt Master of Divinity diplomát szereztem, ösztöndíjas diákként egy tanulmányi évet töltöttem el az Egyesült Államokban a Columbia Theological Seminary-ben Decature-ben, Georgia államban, ahol Master of Theology diplomát szereztem az Ó Szövetség tárgyköréből.
1999 tavaszán megismerkedtem az Független Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház Központi egyházmegyéjének esperesével, aki lelkipásztori szolgálatra hívott Észak- Amerikába. Lehetőségem nyílt megismerkedni a Torontói és Oshawai (Ontaria, Canada) Magyar Református Evangélikus Keresztyén Egyházakkal 1999 pünkösdjén vendég-igehirdetőként. A látogatás után a két gyülekezet meghívott a lelkipásztori szolgálatra.
Magyarországra visszatérve 1999 szeptemberében jeles eredménnyel letettem az Első Lelkészképesítő Vizsgát a Debreceni Református Hittudományi Egyetemen, és megkezdtem segédlelkészi évemet a Nyírségi Egyházmegye Ramocsaháza és Nyiribrony egyházközségeiben.
2000 szeptemberében befejeztem teológiai tanulmányaimat, majd 2000 októberében megkezdtem lelkipásztori szolgálatomat a Torontói és Oshawai Magyar Református Evangélikus Keresztyén Egyházakban. 2000 Október 15-től 2000 szeptember 9-ig beosztott lelkészként végeztem szolgálatot, majd 2001 szeptember 9-én a gyülekezet közgyűlése egyhangúlag teljes idejű lelkipásztorává választott meg, és 2003 novemberéig végeztem szolgálatot a két kanadai gyülekezetben.
A columbusi gyülekezetben öt évig végeztem lelkipásztori szolgálatot, közben a Kálvini Egyházkerület Ifjusági táborának vezetőjeként és az egyházkerület főjegyzőjeként szolgáltam.
A New Brunswick-i Magyar Református Egyháznál 2008 decemberétől szolgálok. Hálás vagyok Istennek, hogy ez a gyülekezet az elmúlt években nem csupán lelki otthon nyújtott, hanem itt ismerhettem meg feleségemet, akivel 2011 májusában kötöttünk házasságot.
Hiszem, hogy columbusi gyülekezetünkben az előttünk álló időszak egy áldott lehetőséget nyújt mindannyiunk számára ahhoz, hogy lelki életünkben megerősödhessünk, növekedhessünk, és gyülekezetünket tovább építhessük. Szeretném mindannyiukat arra bátorítani, hogy jöjjenek el közénk, csatlakozzanak gyülekezeti közösségünkhöz, hogy aztán együtt örülhessünk Isten közös munkánkra adott áldásának!
Ezúton mondok köszönetet mindannyiuknak azért a sok segítségért, amelyet a gyülekezetben megkezdett munkám első hónapjában kaptam. Nagy várakozással tekintek további közös munkálkodásunk elé. Folytassuk együtt szolgálatunkat Isten ígéretében bízva: „Az Úr mondja: Ti azonban legyetek erősek, ne lankadjatok el, mert tetteiteknek meglesz jutalma!”(2 Krónikák 15:7)
